CURB SAVING DEVICE FOR WHEELCHAIR USERS

Description

Manual wheelchairs are the most common and basic. Regardless of the model or type of wheelchair, these products of vital importance for the mobility of people with difficulty and/or inability to walk have always presented certain limitations. Of these limitations, one of the most notable is the impossibility or great difficulty of being able to cross a sidewalk curb or climb small slopes that usually occur in any urban environment. Obviously, this inconvenience negatively affects the movement of wheelchair users on public roads. The present invention consists of a folding device that would allow a manual wheelchair user to cross or climb a curb or step, which does not exceed 15 cm in height. The device is designed so that it can be manipulated, transported and used by the wheelchair user without the need for an assistant or companion.

The advantages of the new curb saving device are the following. • Curb saving device with great versatility and ease of use • The handling of each of the elements and pieces that make up the device can be carried out by the wheelchair user themselves. • The dimensioning, weight, and arrangement of the different parts are such that a second person is not required to assist or help the wheelchair user.

 

Uses and Applications

The application of the invention corresponds to the field of manual wheelchairs. The main application of the designed device is to allow a wheelchair user to climb onto the sidewalk when there is an unevenness. Its technical characteristics allow it to be attached to almost 100% of the wheelchairs on the market.
