NEW COMBINED THERAPY OF SELECTIVE INHIBITOR OF RECAPTATION OF SEROTONIN AND GAL (1-15) FOR THE TREATMENT OF DEPRESSION AND OTHER PSYCHIC DISORDERS
Description
The role of neuropeptides and their receptors in the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus, as a key area of the brain involved in certain psychic disorders, are presented as key targets from which to find new antidepressant treatments. In recent studies in animal models, the use of the Galanin fragment, GAL (1-15), in combination with Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) is proposed as a combination therapy capable of producing an increase in the antidepressant action of the IRSR. . Specifically, the present invention proposes for the first time the combined use of GAL (1-5) with Fluoxetine (SSRI), to increase and facilitate a faster response to the therapeutic effect of the latter in the treatment of mental disorders such as depression, anxiety and some social phobias.
Advantages
- The use of Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors have become the first choice substances for the treatment of depression, certain forms of anxiety and some phobias, since they are more effective, well tolerated and safer substances compared to classic tricyclic antidepressants. - Despite the widespread use of SSRIs as a treatment for mental disorders, clinical studies indicate an absence of response to SSRIs in some forms of depression, anxiety and / or phobias, in approximately 30% of cases. Therefore, a new therapy or drug that increases the effects of these is considered key for the treatment of these psychic disorders.
