STEERING SYSTEM WITH VARIABLE GEOMETRY FOR MOTORCYCLES AND SIMILAR
Description
The frontal geometry of certain vehicles, such as a bicycle or tricycle, such as a motorcycle, affects several key parameters for cornering control and stability in different driving conditions. It can be said that the front geometry of a motorcycle basically comprises everything that is attached to the chassis in front of it, that is: the steering axle, the set of seat posts, the suspension fork and the wheel (in the case of suspension fork type).
The object of the present invention is a new steering system based on a variable geometry mechanism that allows a quick and easy adjustment of the vehicle's steering geometry, which allows modifying its behavior while driving. More specifically, the steering system of the invention makes it possible to adjust the offset and the relative angle between the fork and the steering axle simultaneously; and correct, in part, the negative effects that occur on other geometric dimensions.
Advantages
The current systems want to improve some parameters involved in the frontal geometry of motorcycles to improve their stability. The most used are, by direct offset modification as well as by direct relative angle modification between fork and steering axle, but in both, final geometries different from those expected are obtained, since dimensions that were not intended to be modified are inadvertently modified. initially. This affects the dynamic response and handling of the motorcycle in undesirable ways. The present invention solves the above problems thanks to a new steering system with variable geometry that allows the offset and the relative angle between the fork and the steering axis to be modified in a combined way in such a way that it is much easier to choose, control and modify the geometric parameters of the vehicle, compare the initial and modified geometries, and find dynamic responses expected by theoretical studies.
Uses and Applications
The present invention belongs to the sector of bicycles or tricycles, preferably in the motorcycles, mopeds and bicycles sector. The patent proposes a new steering system based on a mechanism with variable geometry that allows a quick and easy adjustment of the vehicle's steering geometry, allowing it to modify its behavior while driving.
